خضر I : مَا كَانَ لِيَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ بِالْمَلَا الْأَعْلَى إِذْ يَخْتَصِمُوْنَ . contended and disputed خصم had no knowledge of the Exalted Assembly when they discussed it or disputed among themselves )38:70( تَأْخُذُهُمْ وَ هُمْ يَخِصِّمُوْنَ : Which will overtake them while they are disputing )36:50( إِنَّ ذَلِكَ لَحَقُّ تَخَاصُمُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ : Surely, this is a fact, the wrangling of the dwellers of the Fire )38:65( حَصِيمٌ and خَصْمٌ : An adversary in dispute; litigant; an antagonist. هَلْ أَتَكَ نَبُوا الْخَصْمِ : Hath the story of the litigants come to thee )38:22( خَصْمٌ is used alike as masculine and feminine and singular and plural because it is originally an inf. noun but it has also the dual form هَذَانِ خَصْمَانِ اخْتَصَمُوْا فِي رَبِّهِمْ . خَصْمَانِ : Those are two disputants who have disputed concerning their Lord (22:20) and the plural is خُصُومٌ and خِصَامٌ or this may be plural of خَصْمٌ but the plural of خَصِمٌ is also خَصِمُوْنَ and بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ خَصِمُوْنَ أَخْصَامٌ : Nay but they are a contentious people )43:59( فَإِذَا هُوَ حَصِيمٌ مُّبِينٌ : Yet lo he is an open quarreler )36:78( خِصَام is the plural of خَصْمٌ meaning disputants, litigants; adversaries; opponents. وَهُوَالُدُّ الْخِصَامِ : He is the most rigid of opponents (2:205). 28 28 خَضَدَ ]aor. يَخْضِدُ inf. noun خَضْدٌ [ : He broke wood or a branch or twig or a soft thing so that its parts did not separate; he bent without breaking wood or a branch or twig. حَضَدَ الشَّجَرَ : He cut off or removed the thorns of the trees; he ate vehemently. مَخْضُودٌ : A tree having its thorns removed; thornless tree; it also means, a tree having the branches bent by reason of the abundance of the fruit. It is syn. with خَضَدٌ which means, lacking power to rise from langour of the body, and pain with laziness. فِي سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُوْدٍ : Amidst thornless lote-trees (56:29). خَضِرَ ]aor. يَخْضَرُ inf. noun خَضْرٌ[ and إِخْضَرَّ : ]a colour or seed produce[ was or became green; he (a camel or horse) was or became of a dark or dust-colour; he (a man) or it (a thing) was or became of a tawny or brownish colour; or of a blackish hue inclining to green; or black; or intensely black إِخْضَرَّ اللَّيْلُ : The night became dark and black. إِخْضَرَّ said of seed-produce, it was or became soft or tender. فَتُصْبِحُ الْاَرْضُ مُخْضَرَّةً : And the earth 234 لک
