جنح comparison with the magnitude of or simply in comparison with thy love (6) in respect of يَا حَسْرَتَا عَلَى مَا فَرَّطْتُ فِي جَنْبِ اللهِ : my grief for my negligence in respect of that which is the right or due of Allah or in respect of the means of attaining nearness to God (39:57). They say : اتَّقِ اللَّهَ فِي جَنْبِهِ وَلَا تَقْدَحْ فِي سَاقِهِ : Fear God in respect of His due and impugn not His reputation. (plural Their sides keep away from their : تَتَجَافَى جُنُوبُهُمْ عَنِ الْمَضَاجِعِ جُنُوْبٌ جنب beds (32:17) They also say نَزَلُوْا فِي جَنَابَاتِ الْوَادِي : They alighted in the sides of the valley or in the tracts beside the valley. جَانِبٌ )plural جَوَانِبُ( : Side; direction; the neighbourhood of a people; جَانِبَ الْبَرِّ a region or tract of a people or country. أَنِّسَ مِنْ جَانِبِ الطَّوْرِ نَارًا : He perceived fire in the direction of the mount )28:30( أَعْرَضَ وَنَا بِجَانِبه : He turns away and goes aside )17:84( أَفَأَمِنْتُمْ أَنْ يَخْسِفَ بِكُمْ : Do you feel secure that He will not bring you low on a tract of land )1769( لانَ جَانِبُهُ : He was or became gentle to deal with. رَجُلٌ لَيِّنُ الْجَانِبِ : A man gentle and easy to deal with جَانِبٌ : The bank of a river and any bank or steep acclivity; a limit, bound or boundary. عَلَى جَانِبِ : Beside aside or apart. جَانِبٌ مِّنَ الْمَالِ : A portion or large portion of property. جَانِبٌ : A man's honour or reputation which should be preserved inviolate; avoided and despised. دَعْ كَذَا جَانِبًا i. e. leave it alone. جَنُوْبٌ : South. جَنَحَ ]aor. يَجْنِحُ and يَجْنَحُ and يَجْنُحُ inf. noun جَنَحَ لَهُ أَوْإِلَيْهِ [ جُنُوحًا : He or it inclined or leaned towards it. وَإِنْ جَنَحُوْا لِلسَّلْمِ فَاجْنَحْ لَهَا : And if they incline towards peace, incline thou to it (8:62). The word also means, he (a man) set about a thing to do it with his hands, his breast leaning over it. جَنَحَ عَلَى مِرْفَقَيْهِ : He rested himself upon his elbows having set them upon the ground. جَنحَ : It approached. جَمَحَ اللَّيْلُ : The night approached. جَمَحَ الطَّائِرُ : The bird contracted its wings to descend and approached like one falling and repairing to a place of refuge. جَمَحَ الطَّائِرَ : He hurt the wings of the bird. جناح : Wing; hand, upper arm or arm from the shoulder to the elbow; armpit; a part or portion of a thing; the side )جان(dgewing of an army; ability; refuge; protection; power; inclination; assistant وَاخْفِضْ لَهُمَا جَنَاحَ الذُّلِّ : And lower to 148
