Dr۔Henry Martin Clark and his council persistantly pleaded with Captain Douglas for issuing a warrant of arrest for the Promised Messiah(AS)۔Instead, Captain Douglas issued a simple notice requiring the Promised Messiah's appearance before him on August 10, 1897 at Batala۔On receipt of this notice the Promised Messiah arranged for his counsel to be present at Batala۔On hearing the news many of his disciples reached Batala on Aug 9, 1897۔On arrival the Promised Messiah(AS) was told that some people of the Arya Samaj and Maulvi Mohammad Hussain had also joined the Christians against him۔The Promised Messiah (AS) very calmly assured them that the Almighty God۔was with him and not with his opponents, and that Allah had informed him of His decree which would undoubtedly prevail۔When the Promised Messiah (AS) appeared in the court the District Magistrate honoured him with great respect and seated him on a chair next to his on the dais۔On the other hand on 13th August 1897 when Maulvi Mohammad Hussain Batalvi (the leader of the Ahle Hadith sect of Islam) appeared in the court and asked for a chair and insisted on his demand he was severely reprimanded by Captain Douglas who ordered him to stand up straight and give his evidence۔During the proceedings of the court Captain Douglas was surprised at Maulvi Sahib's persistence in telling lies۔So he closed his evidence with the remark on his file that Maulvi Sahib had made numerous accusations against Mirza Sahib but that he was biased, and hence there was no need to take his evidence any more۔When Maulvi Mohammad Hussain Batalvi Sahib came out of the court room further disgrace awaited him۔He tried to sit on a chair in the verandah but a policeman took it away۔He then sat on a sheet spread on the ground۔The owner pulled it away telling him that he would not let his sheet be polluted by a man who had come to help the cause of Christianity against Islam۔On the same day Dr۔Henry Martin Clark, Prem Das (another witness) and Abdul Hameed gave their testimony۔Captain Douglas considered Abdul Hameed's statement to be absurd and inconsistent compared to the statement given by him at Amritsar۔Captain Douglas was greatly perturbed and he kept on pacing back and 11
