A case of abetting to murder was filed against the Promised Messiah by Dr۔Henry Martin Clark, the missionary incharge of a mission hospital at Amritsar۔Captain Douglas adjudicated the case impartially and concluded that it was a fake accusation۔So he acquitted the Promised Messiah without any reservations۔Thereafter, he congratulated the Promised Messiah(AS) in the court and told him that he had the right to sue Henry Martin Clark۔But the Promised Messiah told him that he would not file any case against anyone in this world because his case was already in the court of the Almighty God۔Captian Douglas died in London on 25th February 1957 at the age of 93 years۔Some of the salient features of this case are given below: A young man, Abdul Hameed, who was known for changing his religion very often went to Qadian in 1897 and attempted to join the Ahmadiyya Community at the hands of the Promised Messiah۔Mr۔Hameed was not accepted into the Ahmadiyya Community and was asked to leave Qadian۔He then went to Amritsar and became a Christian, and was taken to Dr۔Henry Martin Clark by the clergymen۔Dr۔Clark took advantage of the situation and tried to use Abdul Hameed to incriminate the Promised Messiah(AS) in a case of attempted murder۔Abdul Hameed was trained accordingly and then presented before Mr۔A۔E۔Martino, the District Magistrate of Amritsar۔Dr۔Henry Martin Clark submitted a written statement signed by Abdul Hameed and eight Christian missionaries as witnessess before the court۔As this was a serious allegation and was submitted by a person of his own faith, the District Magistrate issued a warrant for the arrest of the Promised Messiah with a demand for Rs۔40,000/= as surety and Rs۔20,000/= as a bond to keep the peace۔The warrant was issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Gurdaspur, but due to divine planning it never reached its destination۔After a few days it occurred to the District Magistrate of Amritsar that District Gurdaspur was out of his jurisdiction۔He sent a telegram to Captain Douglas cancelling the warrant issued by him۔Upon enquiry Captain Douglas was told that no such warrant had been issued۔In the meantime, the District Magistrate of Amritsar transfered the case to District Magistrate Gurdaspur۔Meanwhile, the Promised Messiah (AS) and his community were completely unaware of these developments۔10
