28 Umar ra , i. e. , a son should not inherit Khilafat from his father. That is why he later became reconciled with Mu’awiya ra , which consequently resulted in the martyrdom of Imam Husain ra and many of his family members. Once Imam Hasan ra refused to accept the Divine bounty of Khilafat , God decided that no one from amongst them should ever be granted this blessing again. Hence, since then, no Sayyed has ever become a king. They have ruled only small and insignificant territories; they were never granted true kingship and Khilafat. Imam Hasan ra turned down God’s bounty, an act which resulted in horrible consequences. Therefore, it is not a trivial matter to reject God’s bounties that He wishes to bestow upon His servants. Remember that he who calls upon me to abandon the robe of Khilafat has not at all partaken of true recognition of God and is unable to understand the wisdom behind His acts. Such an ignorant person has no idea of the consequences of such an act. Therefore, like Hadrat Usman ra , I too have declared that I would never take off the robe that has been bestowed upon me by God Himself. I shall never take it off even if the whole world were bent upon snatching it from me. Therefore, whether someone joins me or not, I will continue to march forward. God the Exalted has revealed to me that there would be ordeals and trials, but the end would be good. Therefore, anyone who dares may come forward to oppose me. God willing, I will prevail. It does not matter who dares to come out and have a contest with me. There are things which only I can tell. Nobody knows how heavy is the weight of the responsibility that I have been asked to bear. There are days when I feel that I would die even before sunset. On such occasions, I say to myself ‘I should continue to
