27 when I had already seen how God punished those who rejected His bounty, how could I refuse to accept it? I firmly believed that God, who had chosen me for this task, would Himself strengthen my hands, and would bestow steadfastness and perseverance upon me. Hence, had even those who acknowledged my Khilafat immediately turned apostate and had I been left with not even a single follower and had the whole world become my enemy and had become thirsty for my life – that is maximum they would have been able to do – for even then I would have refused to budge and would have never thought of turning down God’s blessing, for this mistake, once made, brings horrible consequences. Dire Consequences of Abandoning the Robe of Khilafat Imam Hasan ra made the same mistake, the consequences of which were indeed grave. However, he made this mistake on account of a specific view of his, i. e. , he believed that a son should not inherit Khilafat from his father. Hadrat Umar ra also held the same view and I am also of the same opinion. It was for this reason that Hadrat Umar ra , regarding the election of the Khalifah after him, said that though his son should be consulted, he would not be entitled to be elected as Khalifah. Hadrat Ali ra appointed his son, Imam Hasan ra as Khalifah after him. Of course, he did this with the best of intentions, for there was no other person who could be chosen as Khalifah and who was truly worthy of the seat of Khilafat. It seems as if Hadrat Hasan ra held the same view as Hadrat
