? xxxii It is very convincing and I believe true. I should like to be a follower of Islam. But some others, especially Roman Catholics, instead of seeking further information have written: 1. ‘The discovery is a sham and a fraud. ’ 2. ‘It is a vicious attack upon the Bible, the inspired word of God. ’ 3. ‘Jesus Christ is alive. ’ 4. ‘He lives to save. ’ One Roman Catholic wrote: You have been grossly deceived by either a self-deluded fanatic or a charlatan, the like of which I might assure you, we have produced (our own particular brand) in this country. Some of the clergy were so rude and outraged that they tried to snatch and tear up the leaflets from the hands of the distributors and others after accepting them, tore them up. To the latter group I would like to say that their attitude is unconstructive and can- not benefit them at all. Jesus Christ himself was abused in a worse manner by his opponents, the scribes and Pharisees. We should not be antagonistic towards one another in the matter of religion. We Muslims believe that Jesus Christ was a prophet of God and that he, like other great prophets, suffered at the hands of opponents, who failed in their object to cause him to die an accursed death.
