people derive it from ]ø Ö ß $ ç »  ö signifying "motion", some others say that it is originally ]ô Þ»  ô nø ^ á º from ]ø Ö ßôù  » nø ^ á ö (forgetfulness). It is said: ]ô Þ $ Û ø ^  ö Û ôù o ø ]ô Þ»  ø ^ Þ÷ ^ ô ø Þ $ ä ü Â ø ã ô  ø ]ô Öø n» ä ô Ê ø ßø  ô o ø : He was only named ]ô Þ»  ø ^ á º because he was commanded and forgot. ]ô Þ»  ø ^ á º also means ]ô Þ»  ø ^ á ö ] Ö» Ã ø n» à ô : The image that is reflected in the black of the eye; the pupil or apple of the eye; or the black of the eye. It also means the land that is not cultivated. æ ø u ø Û ø × ø ã ø ^ ] » ô Þ»  ø ^ á ö : But man bore it (33:73). mø ç » Ý ø Þø  » Â ö ç » ] Ò ö Ø $ ]ö Þø ^  õ : Remember the day when We shall summon every people (17:72). Þø ^  º is syn. with ]ö Þø ^  º being a contraction thereof and means: Men; mankind; people;  ø h % ] Ö ß $ ^  ô : Lord of men; Lord of mankind. ]ø Þø Ì ø [aor. mø ^» Þô Ì ö and mø ^» Þö Ì ö inf. noun ]ø Þ» Ë ÷ ^ ] ]ø Þø Ë ø ä ü : He struck his nose (inf. noun ]ø Þ» Ì º ). ]ø Þô Ì ø (aor. mø ^» Þø Ì ö ) ]ø Þô Ì ø Ú ô ß» ä ö : He turned up his nose at it; he hated it (inf. noun ]ø Þø Ì º ).  Þô Ì º =  Þô Ë ÷ ^ : In the beginning; just now; a little while ago; in the first time; near. Ú ø ^  ø ] Î ø ^ Ù ø  Þô Ë ÷ ^ : What he has been talking about just now (47:17). ]ø » F Þø ^ Ý ö and ]ø » ø Þø ^ Ý ö : Mankind and the jinn or what are on the surface of the earth ( ]ø Ö» í ø ×» Ð ö ) ; everything having a soul; or every one who is subject to sleep as though it were derived from ]ø Ö ß $ ç » Ý ö. æ ø ] » ø  »  ø æ ø  ø Ã ø ã ø ^ Öô ¡» ø Þø ^ Ý ô : And He has set the earth for His creatures (55:11). ]ø Þø o [aor. mø ^» Þô o » inf. noun ]ø Þ÷ o and ]ø Þ» o º and ]ø Þø ^ ð º and ]ô Þ÷ o ] q ø ^ ð ø ]ø Þø ^ å ö : (1) Its time came; it was or became or drew near; (2) it attained to its full or final time or state; (3) it became mature or ripe or it became thoroughly cooked. ]ø Öø Ü » mø ^» á ô Öô × $  ô m» à ø ]F Ú ø ßö ç » ] : Has not the time come for those who believe (57:17). Æ ø n»  ø Þø ^ ¾ ô  ô m» à ø ]ô Þø ^ å ö : Without waiting for its appointed time; without waiting for it having been cooked (33:54). ]ø Þø o ] Ö» Û ø ^ ð ö The water became hot to the utmost degree. ]ø Þø o ] Ö» v ø Û ô n» Ü ö : The hot water became hot to the utmost degree. (4)  Þø o also means, it (a thing) was or became behind its time; delayed. ]ô Þ» o º (and ]ô Þ» o ÷ and ]ô Þ» ç º and ]ô Þ» o º and ]ø Þ÷ o ): An hour or a short portion of time; or an indefinite time; a time of the night; any hour of the night; or the whole day. Ú ø  F o ]ô Þ» o º Ú ô à ø ] Ö × $ n» Ø ô : A time of the night passed. (  Þø ^ ð º plural).  Þø ^ p ôÿ ] Ö $ n» Ø ô : Hours of the night (20:131). mö Ï ø ^ Ù ö  Þø ^ ð ö ] Ö × $ n» Ø ô æ ø ]ø  »  ø ] Í ö ] Ö ß $ ã ø ^  ô : Meaning the day and the night. ]ø Þ÷ o as also ] Þ  ] Þ o 42
