54 A VERDICT REQUIRED Hell, aggressively gathering testimonies that these people are even worse than the Christians in disbelief. All familial ties were sev- ered. Brothers abandoned brothers, fathers disowned sons, and sons left fathers. Such a storm of fitnah erupted as if an earthquake had struck through which-to this day-thousands of God's righteous servants, scholars and intellectuals of the religion of Islam, and the pious are deemed kāfir worthy of the punishment of eternal damnation!!! THE THIRD FITNAH, which ranks third, is the trial of the Aryas that transpired with a brilliant Sign. This fitnah is ranked third because, in spite of the intense disturbance, it was accompanied by a clear Sign of victory. It is true that a great clamour was raised by the Hindus during this, repeatedly issuing threats of murder and sending letters filled with filthy language. Going beyond the limits [of civility], extremely harsh language was published in sev- eral newspapers and then eventually a search of my home was con- ducted through the agency of the Government. However, despite all these impediments, the flag of victory remained in our hands. It was in accordance with the agreement that was made with Lekh Ram for a religious test through a Heavenly Sign, that our Benevolent God-decreeing in our favour-granted us victory with great clarity over the Hindus, and just as this revelation had been previously foretold in Barāhīn-e-Ahmadiyya that اگر خدا ایسا نہ کرتا that is, had God not manifested such a brilliant Sign- تو دنیا میں اندھیر پڑ جاتا ]the world would have been enveloped in darkness].
