HADRAT MIRZA GHULAM AHMAD AS 29 The following text appears on pages 2 and 3 of this announcement: Now, by publicizing this prophecy, I proclaim to all Muslims, Aryas, Christians, and other denominations that if this individual, within a period of six years from today-that is, from 20th February 1893—is not afflicted with a chastisement that is distinct from ordinary afflic- tions and is of an extraordinary nature (in other words, it is not among the common illnesses and ailments which naturally befall humans, causing them occasional suffer- ing, and from which they sometimes recover and at other times succumb to death), and if it bears the awe-inspir- ing hallmarks of Divine punishment (meaning that, clear Signs of the wrath of Allah are manifest in it), then know that I am not from God Almighty, nor consider this dis- course of mine to have emanated from His Spirit. (In other words, this prophecy alone shall serve as the crite- rion to adjudge my veracity or falsehood. ) Furthermore, should I be proven false in this prophecy, I stand prepared to endure every punishment and I am willing to be hanged at the gallows with a noose around my neck. 20 February 1893
