18 A VERDICT REQUIRED Letter of Pandit Lekh Ram SECOND LETTER OF PANDIT LEKH RAM Grant your favour, O respected Mirza Şāḥib, Namaste. Your message in response to my letter was conveyed to me briefly and verbally through Bhā'ī Kishan Singh and in detail through Maulawi Din Muhammad and Muhammad Umar, stating that a debate should be held on two or three issues regarding Aryah Dharm and the religion of Islam, and the rules of the debate should be established accord- ing to the preference of both parties. In response to this, I humbly submit that my sole purpose in traveling from Peshawar to Qadian—and in the hope of fulfilling which I still continue to reside here till now -was indeed to verify the truthfulness of your miracles, extraordinary feats, marvels, revelations, and heavenly Signs and witness them. And before any discussion takes place on any other principle, this particular issue should be properly resolved in the presence of a distinguished gathering of people. And if you find yourself unable to agree to this and seek to avoid it, I am still not averse in any way to engage in other discussions. It is also worth noting here that proving something in front of one's own followers while sitting in one's own home is one thing, and having it attested to in an assem- bly of scholars and learned individuals is another thing
