Use of ‘I vs. 'We' for First Person The Promised Messiah as employs ['we'] hamm in Urdu and naḥnu ['we'] in Arabic, which is somewhat akin to the 'royal we' or majestic plural employed in English (i. e. leaders speaking on behalf of those under their authority). Although the literal trans- lation of 'we' is accurate, the use of 'I' may be the more appropriate translation given the context. The translation 'I' should be used when the author is referring to himself alone, whereas 'we' should be used when he is speaking on behalf of the Community.
