CH. 60 AL-MUMTAHINAH PT. 28 قَدْ كَانَتْ لَكُمْ أَسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ فِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ There is a good model for. 5 وَالَّذِينَ مَعَهُ إِذْ قَالُوْا لِقَوْمِهِمْ إِنَّا you in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, "We have nothing to do with you and with that which disbelieve all that you believe. بُرَةٌ وَا مِنْكُمْ وَمِمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللهِ كَفَرْنَا بِكُمْ وَبَدَا بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمُ you worship beside Allah. We الْعَدَاوَةُ وَالْبَغْضَاءُ اَبَدًا حَتَّى تُؤْمِنُوْا There has arisen enmity and بِاللهِ وَحْدَةَ إِلَّا قَوْلَ ابْرُهِيْمَ لِأَبِيْهِ لَاَسْتَغْفِرَنَّ لَكَ وَ مَا أَمْلِكُ لَكَ alone'except that Abraham مِنَ اللهِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ رَبَّنَا عَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْنَا ask forgiveness for thee, though hatred between us and you for ever, until you believe in Allah said to his father, "I will surely I have no power to do aught for thee against Allah. Commentary: Abraham, as elsewhere stated in the Quran (11:76), was a model of forbearance and tender-heartedness. His example has been mentioned here to emphasize the fact that whenever it becomes clear that a certain person or people are inimically disposed towards Truth and are bent upon extirpating it, all friendly relations with them are to be given up.
