PT. 23 ṢĀD CH. 38 وَانْطَلَقَ الْمَلَأُ مِنْهُمْ أَنِ امْشُوا And the leaders among them. 7 31 went about saying, 'Go and وَاصْبِرُوا عَلَى الِهَتِكُمْ إِنَّ هَذَا stick to <mark><mark><mark>your</mark></mark></mark> <mark><mark>god</mark></mark>s. This is a thing designed. 3377 لَشَيْءٍ يُرَادُن مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَذَا فِي الْمِلَّةِ الْآخِرَةِ إِنْ We have not heard of. 8 هذَا إِلَّا اخْتِلَاقُ be anything like this in the latest religion. This is nothing but a fabrication. 3378 وَأُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ الذِّكْرُ مِنْ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُمْ Has the exhortation been. 9 فِي شَكٍّ مِّنْ ذِكْرِى بَلْ لَمَّا يَذُوقُوا عَذَابِ sent down to him in preference to all of us?' Nay, they are in doubt concerning <mark><mark><mark>My</mark></mark></mark> exhortation. Nay, but they have not yet tasted <mark><mark><mark>My</mark></mark></mark> punishment. 3379 3377. As disbelievers believed that there were many <mark><mark>god</mark></mark>s, and the Holy Prophet proclaimed the Unity of <mark><mark>God</mark></mark>, they would say that somehow he had rolled all the <mark><mark>god</mark></mark>s into one. The words "This is a thing designed" put in the mouths of the leaders of disbelief signify that according to them the Holy Prophet had his own ulterior motives to serve in preaching the message of the Unity of <mark><mark>God</mark></mark>. Or the words may mean that when invited by the Holy Prophet to give up idolatry, the leaders of the Quraish said to one another that they should stick to their own <mark><mark>god</mark></mark>s and that was a most desirable thing for them to do. 3378. Important Words: (fabrication) is derived from which among other things means, he forged or fabricated a story or a lie, etc. (Lane). See also 3:50 & 26:138. Commentary: The words "the latest religion" may refer to Christianity or the idolatrous Faith of the pagans of Mecca, or they may refer to all religions preceding Islam, because in no religion before Islam had belief in the Unity of <mark><mark>God</mark></mark> remained pure and unadulterated. 3379. Commentary: of The verse refers to a great obstacle which stands in the way disbelievers to accept the truth.
