CH. 11 PT. 12 HŪD 67. So when Our command came, we saved Ṣāliḥ and those فَلَمَّا جَاءَ أَمْرُنَا نَجَّيْنَا صُلِحًا وَالَّذِينَ Our command امَنُوْا مَعَهُ بِرَحْمَةٍ مِّنَّا وَمِنْ خِزْيِ who believed with him by Our يَوْمِذٍ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ الْقَوِيُّ الْعَزِيزُ special mercy, and We saved them from the ignominy of that day. Surely, thy Lord. is Powerful, Mighty. 1447 وَاَخَذَ الَّذِيْنَ ظَلَمُوا الصَّيْحَةُ فَأَصْبَحُوا And punishment overtook. 68 those who had done wrong, and they lay prostrate in their houses, 1448 people, however, did not themselves. 1447. Important Words: "7:79; 26:159; 54:32. فِي دِيَارِهِمْ جُثِمِينَ avail which means, he called out or cried vehemently or he shouted with صاح عليه. his utmost force or power قوی Powerful is derived from) القوى meaning, he was or became strong; means, he rebuked him. means, they were frightened or terrified. صيح صاحت الشجرة. means, they perished فيهم قوى عليه. vigorous, robust or sturdy means, he had strength or power sufficient for it; or he had strength or power to endure it; he prevailed against it. which is the noun- infinitive from this root means, strength, power, potency, might or force. therefore means, powerful, strong, mighty. is one of the attributive names of God, meaning, Powerful, Mighty, etc. (Lane & Aqrab). Commentary: Every punishment is a disgrace in itself. The addition of the words, the ignominy of that day, therefore shows that there were some special elements of disgrace in the visitation that overtook the people of Ṣāliḥ. 1448. Important Words: (punishment) is derived from means, the tree became tall. a means, a loud cry; punishment, castigation or chastisement; a hostile or predatory incursion by which a tribe is surprised (Lane & Aqrab). Commentary: Seven different words and expressions have been used in the which overtook the tribe of Thamūd. Quran to describe the punishment 1369 (an صيحة عذاب رجفة In the verse under comment and in 54:32, the word used is (punishment); in 7:79, earthquake); in 26:159, (chastisement); in 27:52, (We utterly destroyed them); in 51:45, ac (thunderbolt; any destructive punishment); in 69:6, (an extraordinary punishment); and in
