CH. 5 يَا يُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اذْكُرُوا نِعْمَتَ اللهِ !believe PT. 6 12. O ye who AL-MA'IDAH remember Allah's favour upon you when a people intended to عَلَيْكُمْ اِذْ هَمَّ قَوْمٌ أَنْ يَسْطُوا إِلَيْكُمْ أَيْدِيَهُمُ فَكَفَّ أَيْدِيَهُمْ عَنْكُمْ ۚ وَاتَّقُوا stretch out their hands against you, but "He withheld their اللهَ وَعَلَى اللهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ hands from you; and fear Allah And on Allah should the believers rely. 6 649 R. 3. b a covenant from the children of Israel; and "We raised among E وَلَقَدْ اَخَذَ اللهُ مِيثَاقَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ And indeed Allah did take. 13 وَبَعَثْنَا مِنْهُمُ اثْنَى عَشَرَ نَقِيْبًا وَقَالَ اللهُ إِنِّي مَعَكُمْ لَبِنْ أَقَمْتُمُ الصَّلوةَ them twelve leaders. And Allah said, 'Surely, I am with you. If وَاتَيْتُمُ الزَّكُوةَ وَأَمَ بِرُسُى you observe Prayer, and pay the وَعَزَّرْتُمُوهُمْ وَاَقْرَضْتُمُ اللهَ قَرْضًا Zakah, and believe in My Messengers and support them, حَسَنًا لَّأُكَفْرَنَّ عَنْكُمْ سَاتِكُمْ ,and lend to Allah a goodly loan وَلَا دُخِلَنَّكُمْ جَنَّتٍ تَجْرِى مِنْ تَحْتِهَا I will remove your evils from الْأَنْهرُ ۚ فَمَنْ كَفَرَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ مِنْكُمْ فَقَدْ you and dadmit you into Gardens beneath which streams a5:111. 2:41, 84. º2:61; 7:161. d See 2:26. also to all non-Muslims-even to those Prophet was returning from Tabuk. The words, And fear Allah, surely Allah is aware of what you do, contain a stern warning that the just and equitable treatment of the enemy enjoined above should not be by way of show but should proceed from the heart and be based on the fear of God, from Whom nothing is hidden. 649. Commentary: The verse is considered by some commentators to refer to an incident which took place when the Holy 759 is said that on this occasion six hypocrites lay in ambush to kill him, but God saved him by disclosing the plot to him. The verse may, however, not necessarily be applied to any particular incident. It may be taken to refer generally to the protection which God vouchsafed to Muslims from the aggressive attacks of their enemies. By "a people" is here primarily meant the disbelievers of Mecca, who spared no pains to extirpate Islam and the Muslims, but the word is also general in its application.
