Surely, "We have revelation to thee, as We sent revelation to Noah and the إبْراهِيمَ وَاسْمُعِيلَ وَإِسْحَقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ Prophets after him; and We sent revelation to Abraham and وَالْأَسْبَاطِ وَعِيسَى وَأَيُّوبَ وَيُونُسَ Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob وَهُرُوْنَ وَسُلَيْمَنَ وَأَتَيْنَا دَاوُدَ زَبُوْران and his children and to Jesus وَرُسُلًا قَدْ قَصَصْنُهُمْ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَرُسُلًا لَّمْ نَقْصُصْهُمُ عَلَيْكَ وَكَلَّمَ اللَّهُ مُوسى تَكْلِيمان and Job and Jonah and Aaron and Solomon, and "We gave David a Book. 627 165. Commentary: (a Book) signifies any writing or book; or a book that is confined to intellectual science exclusive of legal statutes or ordinances. signifies particularly the Book of the Psalms of David (Lane & Aqrab). Commentary: Typical Prophets have been mentioned here and in the succeeding verse to point out that the mission of 733 the Prophet of Islam was not a new thing, the specific mention of the Book of wisdom given to David, in the present verse and of the Law- bearing revelation vouchsafed to Moses in the succeeding one, being both "Law" and "Wisdom". 628. Commentary: The Quran mentions only 24 Prophets by name, whereas a saying of the Holy Prophet states that as many as 124,000 Prophets have appeared in the world (Musnad, v. 266).
