PT. 5 AN-NISA' CH. 4 وَإِنْ يَتَفَرَّقَا يُغْنِ اللهُ كُلَّا مِنْ سَعَتِهِ And if they separate, Allah. 131 وَكَانَ اللهُ وَاسِعًا حَكِيمًا will make both independent out of His abundance; and Allah is Bountiful, Wise. 596 وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ And to Allah belongs. 132 whatever is in the heavens and وَلَقَدْ وَصَّيْنَا الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَبَ مِنْ whatever is in the earth. And قَبْلِكُمْ وَإِيَّاكُمُ أَنِ اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَإِنْ تَكْفُرُوا فَإِنَّ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَواتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ غَنِيَّا حَمِيْدًا "We have assuredly commanded those who were given the Book before you, and commanded you also, to fear Allah. But if you disbelieve, then remember that to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth, and Allah is Self- Sufficient, Praiseworthy. 597 a See 4:127. 42:14. God, saying: "My Lord, these are my dealings in matters over which I have control; so blame me not for that which is in Thy power and not mine," meaning the feelings of the heart (Dāwūd, ch. on Nikāḥ). The Holy Prophet is also reported to have said: "If a man has two wives and he is inclined to one of them (neglecting the other), he will rise on the Day of Resurrection with one of his sides having been torn off (Dāwūd, ch. on Nikāḥ). Thus, both the example and the sayings of the Holy Prophet show that though a husband cannot love his wives equally, he should in his outward treatment, i. e. allotment of time, money, etc. be equally just and fair to all of them. Commentary: If, in spite of the husband and the wife having done their best to live amicably, they find that they cannot pull on together, and separation takes place, then God promises to provide for both parties out of His and more suitable matches.
