CH. 4 AN-NISA' PT. 5 لَعَنَهُ اللهُ وَقَالَ لَا تَخِذَنَّ مِنْ عِبَادِكَ Whom Allah has cursed. 119 نَصِيبًا مَّفْرُوضًان And he said, "I will assuredly take a fixed portion from Thy 585 servants;5 وَلَأُضِلَّنَّهُمْ وَلَا مَنْيَنَّهُمْ وَلَا مُرَنَّهُمْ And assuredly I will lead. 120 them astray and assuredly I will فَلَيُبَتِّكُنَّ أَذَانَ الْأَنْعَامِ وَلَا مُرَنَّهُمْ excite in them vain desires, and فَلَيُغَيِّرُنَّ خَلْقَ اللهِ وَمَنْ يَتَّخِذِ assuredly I will incite them and they will cut the ears of cattle; الشَّيْطن وَلِيَّا مِنْ دُونِ اللهِ فَقَدْ خَسِرَ and assuredly I will incite them خُسْرَانًا مُّبِينًان and they will alter Allah's creation. Commentary: مريد means, The word (lifeless objects) explained above includes all false deities, whether living or dead. The word has been used to point to the utter weakness and helplessness of the false deities. The use of the word "Satan" in the verse signifies that idolaters, while 704 585. Commentary: The opening part of the verse refers to Satan as mentioned in the preceding verse. When cursed by God, he vowed to mislead men; but he can lead astray only a "fixed portion" of them, i. e. those who themselves choose to accept his lead. The words "fixed portion" thus mean portion determined under the eternal laws of God.
