CH. 4 AN-NISA' PT. 5 وَمَا لَكُمْ لَا تُقَاتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيْلِ اللهِ And what is the matter with. 76 you that you fight not in the وَالْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ وَالنِّسَاءِ cause of Allah and of the وَالْوِلْدَانِ الَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا أَخْرِجْنَا weak-men, women and children who say, 'Our Lord, مِنْ هَذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ الظَّالِمِ أَهْلُهَا take us out of this town, whose people are oppressors, and make for us some friend from Thyself, and make for us from Thyself some helper. '545 وَاجْعَلْ لَّنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ وَلِيًّا وَاجْعَلْ لَنَا مِنْ لَّدُنْكَ نَصِيرًان الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يُقَاتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيْلِ اللهِ Those who believe fight in. 77 the cause of Allah, and those وَالَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوا يُقَاتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيْلِ who disbelieve fight in the الطَّاغُوتِ فَقَاتِلُوا اَوْلِيَاءَ الشَّيْطَنِ إِنَّ cause of the Evil One. Fight ye therefore against the friends of Satan; surely, Satan's strategy is & weak! R. 11. كَيْدَ الشَّيْطَنِ كَانَ ضَعِيفان أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ قِيْلَ لَهُمْ كُفُوًا أَيْدِيَكُمُ Dost thou not know of those. 78 to whom it was said: 'Restrain وَأَقِيمُوا الصَّلوةَ وَأَتُوا الزَّكُوةَ فَلَمَّا كُتِبَ your hands, observe Prayer and a4:99. which the Muslims came to grief, as hypocrites have been reprimanded in they did after the Battle of Uḥud. this verse, because such a course, if It is worthy of note here that though in connection with the Battle of Uḥud, the Holy Prophet himself was at first in favour of fighting the enemy by staying in Medina, he did not rebuke the Muslims when they suffered a reverse by telling them that they had met with a disaster by going against his wish. It is for this taunting that the 674 to allowed, is calculated prove detrimental to the cause of communal unity and concord. 545. Commentary: The verse is a clear proof of the fact that Muslims were not the first to open hostilities. They only fought a view to war of defence with a protecting their religion and saving their weaker co-religionists. Important Words: (the Evil One). See 2:257.
