AL-QAŞIDAH-PEARLS OF GUIDANCE & ADMONISHMENT 595 وَيَعْلُوْنَ دِعْصَ الرَّمْلِ هَرْبًا وَكُلُّهُمْ وَقُلْتُ لَهُمْ يَا قَوْمِ خَفْ قَهْرَ قَادِرٍ كَرَ بْرَبِ تَوْرِ الْوَحْشِ يَخْشَوْنَ جَدْ جَدِيْ They flee and run upon the sand dunes As the wild ox fears the hard soil. وَاقْصِرْ وَمَهْلًا بَعْضَ هَذَا التَّشَدُّدِ I told them: O my people! Fear the wrath of the Omnipotent God And be somewhat softer and milder in your extreme inflicting of pain. فَمَا تَرَكُوا أَوْزَارَ شَرٌ وَفِتْنَةٍ وَمَا خَافُوا بَيْرَانَ يَوْمٍ مُبَدِّدِ But they did not abandon the armour of wickedness and conflict Nor feared the fire that cuts to pieces. وَقَدْ تَرَكُوْنِيْ نَخْوَةً وَتَبَاعَدُوا وَلَيْسَ فُؤَادِي عَنْ هَوَاهُمْ بِمُبْعِدِ They abandoned me in their haughtiness and turned away, heart has not become distant from its regard for them. Yet my. references to him in these odes which I have composed and the booklet that I have written. This man is totally destitute [of learning] -he has not been fed anything of literary knowledge, nor granted anything of the elite sciences. He those who opt for the crumbs and reject the precious gems. is among Moreover, he is an enemy of truth, wretched of character, utterly ill-fated, a veritable serpentine mocker, along with hissing and showing his canine teeth. He has firmly rooted his tongue in a bundle of hissing sounds of foul attacks with the hatchet. He has laid bare his canine teeth like a wolf in its rapacity. And verily he possesses absolutely nothing of the knowledge, and is a companion of the wavering people and the hordes of the sneaking whis- perer. I invited him towards my book, but he rejected. I inclined towards him with compassion but he took shelter. Therefore, I have now made up my mind to totally expose his secret so that people know that the facts are clear and the Shaikh is of satanic nature. (Author)
