I knew it from a much earlier time that I had been made the Messiah, son of Mary, and that I had come in his place, but while inter- preting it thus, I kept it secret. In spite of this, I did not change my doc- trine, rather I held to the old doctrine firmly. I waited for ten long years to disclose this revelation and I did not make any haste in this matter, nor did I show any impatience. In addition to that, I never disclosed it to anybody-neither friend nor foe. Even then, if you are in any kind of doubt, either ask the scholars of India how much time has elapsed يُعِيسَى إِنِّي مُتَوَفِّيْكَ ,since the following revelation of mine was first revealed [O 'Isā! I shall give you full reward or cause you to die] or go through Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya. I was waiting for Allah's permission, will, and order until this rev- elation was repeatedly revealed to me, and the darkness was removed, and the clear Divine Signs became recurrent. The above-mentioned revelation was revealed so many times that only God knows its real number. To make this Divine revelation public, the following reve- lation descended upon me, [Proclaim widely that which you are commanded. ] Signs manifested themselves which could only be felt by the senses of the pious and understood through the wisdom of the chosen ones. When the dawn's light spread amply across the sky and this matter was repeatedly emphasized, when my heart was opened and reached satisfaction, winning my heart's approval, it became evi- dent that this is a revelation purely from Allah, and there is no sign of interpolation in it from Satan. Even after that, I did not content myself with this; rather, I ana- lyzed it according to the principles of the Holy Quran and the Sunnah. I also prayed to Allah to help me. Consequently, Allah gave me an understanding of the subtleties of both the Holy Quran as well as the Sunnah, and made me one of those who were succoured. It became clear to me through clear texts of the Holy Quran and Hadith that Jesus the Messiah, the son of Mary, had died and had joined his broth- ers, the Prophets.
