AT-TABLIGH―TO THE NOBLE AND PIOUS OF THE ARABS 481 peace be on him, grasped the hidden message of his father. Did he take the threshold as literal, or did he take it to mean his wife? Look at how Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, took the breaking of a door as an omen of his death, rather than taking a literal meaning. Read the hadith related by Hudhaifah recorded in Ṣaḥiḥ Bukhārī for your guidance. They say that the Promised Messiah will only appear during the time of the appearance of the Dajjal and Gog and Magog, and they claim that since they have not yet witnessed any of them, how can they possibly follow the Messiah if he appears beforehand? The reply is: Know-may Allah guide you to the right path—that these two are the names of a people whose branches have spread all around in these Latter Days. They resemble each other in characteristics. Indeed, they are the people of Russia, Britain, and their brethren. The Dajjāl are the missionaries who invite to the message of the Gospel and confuse the truth with falsehood, and in this way they deceive. They have made Hindustan the centre of their activities. Thus, the word of our Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has proved true that they will appear from the East. Accordingly, they have appeared from the eastern part of Hindustan. If Dajjal are other than what I say, or Gog and Magog are other than these nations, then it entails contradiction and conflict in the word of our Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. I swear by God, the word of our Prophet as is free of this blemish; rather, it is you who deviate from the truth. Do you not read in the most authentic book after the Book of Allah that the Messiah shall break the cross? It contains the clear indication that the Messiah will arrive at a time when people would be venerating the cross. Do you not understand? Surely, it has become manifest that they are the enemies of truth, and they wander blindly in their evil desires. In fact, they rule over the eastern parts of the land, and the western parts thereof, and hasten forth from every height. Indeed, their treachery in matters of faith and disorder in religious law and in everything they concoct have become manifest.
