424 Α'ΙΝΑ-Ε-ΚΑMĀLĀT-E-ISLAM-DAFI UL-WASĀWIS about the religious scholars of India and Punjab, but, in agreement with the advice of respected Maulawī Şāhib, I deemed it appropriate to write an independent letter to the ascetics who have drifted away from the Shariah and the mighty faith of Islam. I had intended to compose this letter in Urdu, but was made to understand last night by some revelatory indications that I should write this letter in Arabic. I also received a revelation that it would have very little effect on my opponents, but the matter would be car- ried to its completion. It may be that the wisdom in writing in Arabic is that the people who make claims of asceticism and Sufism have not paid much attention to studying the Holy Quran and learning the Arabic language because of the extremity of their veils, carelessness, and lack of true love. They are liars in their claim because if they loved Allah, glorified be His eminence, and the Messenger, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, they would certainly have made efforts to learn the language in which this lovely and wisdom-filled Word was revealed. And if God Almighty had looked upon them with mercy, He would have granted them the ability to understand His Holy Word. If they had true love for the Holy Quran, they would have put their shrines to flames, and getting weary of those who pledge allegiance to them, they would have spent their time in perusing the knowledge of the Holy Quran and would have acquired proficiency in the language in which the Holy Quran was revealed. A sufficient testimony to their being deficient in faith and being hypocrites is that they have not honoured the Holy Quran as it deserves to be honoured and have not loved the Holy Quran as it deserves to be loved. Thus, their hypocrisy is exposed. It should be considered that there are many English priests, who have, in their zeal for opposition, learned the Arabic language upon reaching the age of 50 and have learned the meanings of the Holy Quran. Thus, if someone professes to love the Noble Quran, and indeed, styles himself as a pīr and shaikh, he would be proven a liar in
