ADDRESS 15 each other; keep relationships strong and sever not ties; seek the ways of Allah's pleasure and do not despair; O servants of God, hold your tongues and transgress not. AUTHOR'S MARGIN NOTE Do you drive away the People of the Qiblah [fellow Muslims] from your religion, and you do not fear [God]? You neglect to show kindness to your own brothers and fail to feel compassion for them. You become angry with your loved ones and feel no sorrow for them. [Author] Do you expel your brethren in faith from your religion without fear? And you for- sake your brothers and invite them not with compassion, holding grudges against your own people while feeling no sympathy for them? You declare Muslims—who pray and fast, believe in Tauhid [Oneness of God], and restrain themselves from crossing the boundaries set by Allah-as disbelievers and you do not care? Are those who believe in the same Kalimah as you, disbelievers? What is wrong with you? How judge ye? Are those who worship facing Makkah like you, strangers? Do you hear what are saying? Do we run away from the Messenger of Allah, may peace and blessings of Allah be on him? Fear Allah, O transgressors! Do we disbelieve in Allah and His Messenger? you Fear Allah, O liars! You dare to revile your brethren when Allah has forbidden you to revile even the idols. You afflict¹ the believing and obedient women when Allah has forbidden you from killing even the idolatrous women of the warring disbelievers? Is declaring believers to be disbelievers a good deed while declaring the death of the Messiah ªs a sin? What is the matter with you? Where is your righteousness? What has blinded you? Where have your insight and wisdom gone? Where have your knowledge and understanding disappeared to? Have you studied in the [wayward] Jewish academies and been trained in the art of piling up falsehood, layer upon layer? You became pleased with filth while you were advised to be mindful of it. You forgot the Day of 1. This is in reference to the announcement that states that it is no sin at all for anyone who wishes to take and seize their women. [Author]
