They are the kings of religion as good deeds are disseminated from their household, and every desire is granted through their kindness. They are the repository of the utmost subtleties of the Shariah and are well versed in its fundamental and subsidiary princi- ples. May Allah the Almighty keep them safe, grant them long lives and become the Enemy of their enemies and the Friend of their friends. O ulema who slander my faith with the calumny of atheism and curse me with the charge of apostasy! Do you know why I put your account amidst a eulogy of the Noble Prophet sas? I do not think that you would ever know without being apprized of it. Therefore, know that my purpose for this is that I had girded my loins for these twin matters and had beseeched the Lord of earth and heaven to grant me both these twin objectives. THE FIRST OBJECTIVE-To draw you close to the remembrance of the Chosen Messenger and the Accepted Intercessor whose glory is far beyond comprehension by reason and whose closeness cures the wickedness of the forsaken. Thus, I put your account in the midst of that of Mustafa [the Chosen One], so that I may find a cure for your hearts from this refuge and so that you might remember Khātamul- Anbiya' [the Seal of the Prophets], his lofty status, and his might which emanates from the power of the Self-Sufficient God. Thus, that you may display decency, reverence, fear, and taqwa [righteousness], and that you may be granted sound intuition, remorseful souls and fearful hearts so that with his remembrance you may be saved from the flood that has come close and draws nearer still; that your skins may soften, your hearts may tremble, and you may listen to what I say to you, and that you follow not, therefore, any defiant disposition. O my friends, fear Allah and be respectful when the name of the Messengers of Allah is mentioned; lower your wings in his presence and be not boastful; enter into submission and be not divided; obey and break not apart; become brothers and harbour not enmity with
