396 ΑΙΝΑ-Ε-ΚΑMĀLĀT-E-ISLAM-DAFI UL-WASĀWIS in such indecent manner; and, quoting from Deuteronomy the verse that says that the man who is crucified is accursed; declared the Messiah, peace be upon him, to be-God forbid- accursed, an impostor, a liar, and of illegitimate birth; whereas, on the other hand, the Christians praised him with such exag- geration as to make him God and falsely ascribe this teaching to him-it was then that the soul of the Messiah was moved, in accordance with Allah's will, and demanded to be exoner- ated from all these charges and beseeched God for a substitute. Thereupon, our Holy Prophet, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was raised. Among the many objectives of his appearance, one was that he declare the Messiah free from all these unfounded allegations and give testimony in favour of his truth. This is indeed the reason why the Messiah himself says in John, chapter 16: ‘Nevertheless, I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away, for if I go not away, the Comforter (that is, Muhammad, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment, Of sin, because they believe not in me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. Howbeit when he, the spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you unto all truth; He shall glorify me, for he shall receive of mine. ’14¹ 1. John 16:7-14 [Publisher]
