LETTER TO NAWWAB MUHAMMAD ALI KHAN truly an arch-liar-Divine Munificence attends to the matter at that moment to display a Sign to demonstrate the truth and honour of His humble servant. It is then that some Sign from the unseen is manifested, but only those benefit from it who have already believed and have joined the fold of the support- ers of truth, or those who had safeguarded their tongues and pens-and even their thoughts-against expressing any hostile idea against the claimant. But those unfortunate people who had already expressed their hostilities cannot come to believe even after seeing the Sign, for they had already given open expression to their opinions. They had issued public announce- ments and put their seals on their declarations that this person is indeed a great liar. So, to go against their declared and well- known opinions becomes harder for them than death because that would constitute the height of disgrace for them, and their folly would become evident upon thousands of people who can say that: 'These people proclaimed with great fervour that this man was definitely a liar, and there was no doubt about it. They had sworn and had pretended to be wise and learned, but now they support the same man. ' As I have stated earlier, coming to believe merits being rewarded for this very reason that the man of faith accepts the existence of such things which are yet hidden, on the authority of some valid circumstances which point to their existence. This is in fact how Allah, glorified be His eminence, has described the believers in the Noble Quran: يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْغَيْبِ ! Meaning that they believe in such things that are yet behind the veil of the unseen. 1. Surah al-Baqarah, 2:4 [Publisher] 387
