380 Α'ΙΝΑ-Ε-ΚΑMĀLĀT-E-ISLAM-DAFI UL-WASĀWIS should inform you of certain matters and apprise you of what is good for you. Therefore, I write these few lines below for your information. It is true that ever since this humble one made the claim to being the Promised Messiah by the command of Allah the Exalted, those people who lack a decision-making ability have been flung into an extraordinary confusion and perplexity. You also say that verbal arguments will not now help in reaching a decision; that it is now time to get ready for a mubāhalah. You also say that some Sign should be shown. 1. Regarding the mubāhalah, Allah, glorified be His eminence, granted me His permission on His own a few days before your letter came. I consider this to be an agreement of your view with the will of God Almighty that you were moved to make such a proposal. It seems to me that the wisdom in permitting the mubāha- lah now is that a mubāhalah was not permissible earlier because the opponents had not yet been fully educated and were totally ignorant of the real situation. Moreover, they were not as vehement in declaring me to be a kāfir as they have been more recently. But now, after the compilation of Āīna-e-Kamālāt- e-Islām, the message has been fully conveyed, and after seeing this book, even a man of low understanding can realize that the opponents are absolutely wrong in their views. Therefore, I have been commanded to publish the request for the mubā- halah together with the book Ä'ina-e-Kamālāt-e-Islām. That request will, therefore, be published, if Allah the All-Powerful so wills, with the first part of the book. Formerly, I was not sure whether a mubāhalah with the Muslims was at all permissible, because mubāhalah means pro- nouncing a curse against each other, and it is not lawful to curse a Muslim.
