362 ΑΙΝΑ-Ε-ΚΑMĀLĀT-E-ISLAM-DAFI UL-WASĀWIS you act otherwise, you will be summoned to a court and then may have to visit some other resting place. I am also considering your past revelations, and I have not given up my intention of seeking redress regarding them. I also do not think it improper to state that if you are gifted with communion with God and can ask God Almighty regard- ing the details of things needing explanation, and if, with all that, you have (as you claim in your letter) sympathy for man- kind, then you should, instead of threatening and warning me, first make an enquiry regarding me from God Almighty; namely, whether the warning revelation you have received regarding me is irrevocable and bound to occur, or whether its occurrence is conditional, and the fear or punishment that is mentioned in it can be lifted from the person in the situation that he submits to it. Thus, if God Almighty informs you that it is not irrevoca- ble but that it is contingent, you should pray to God that He may enable me to recognize you and make me submissive to you,¹ and that He may ward off that punishment from me. You should, in this regard, cause the sea of your abundant mercy to swell and act upon the example of that merciful Prophetsas whose blood was shed by his own people and who, while he اللهم اغفر لقومى فانهم لا يعلمون ,wiped off blood from his face said [‘O our Allah! Forgive my people, for they do not know']. ² You should moreover act upon this example of the Holy Prophetsas, that when the Angel of the Mountains' came to him and said, 'I have been sent by God Almighty to crush your rejecters and 1.
