358 Α'ΙΝΑ-Ε-ΚΑMĀLĀT-E-ISLAM-DAFI UL-WASĀWIS said to you that your opponents and rejecters were more fortu- nate in that you invited them to witness heavenly Signs, prom- ising them rewards of money, but you did not invite us your friends-even without any promise of rewards; whereupon you smiled and became quiet. Then, when you made the claim to being the Promised Messiah I, having manifested my opposition, expressed a desire to come to you for a private friendly conversation but after com- ing close to promising to invite, you went away to Ludhiana to sit there majestically and having set up the arena for controversy took refuge behind unfair conditions designed to avoid discus- sions. Then, when I compelled you, by going to Ludhiana and arriving at your house to hold a conversation, you interrupted this peaceful conversation and tried again to prepare the arena for a controversy, unfurling the banner of controversial debates in Delhi, Patiala, Lahore, Sialkot, etc. Thereafter, avoiding actual discussion, you issued an announcement containing all manner of allegations and lies. In the meantime, you wrote Āsmānī Faișalah [The Heavenly Verdict] sparing neither unkindness nor abuse in the least. This unkindness and conceit resulted in dissension among the Muslims community-brother leaving brother and friend leav- ing friend. Is this indeed the outcome of mercy and sympathy? If there had been even a trace of mercy or sympathy in you, you should have immediately invited me to your place when I had manifested opposition to your claim to be the Messiah, or else you should have taken the trouble of coming to my humble abode (as it had been your practice before and you had taken the trouble of coming to my humble abode at least three times and expressed your sentiments of solidarity) and, in this man- ner, you could have had the opportunity to prove your new claim. Now, this letter that you have sent, is also not free from your selfishness and intent of creating mischief. It is selfish
