BATALĀWI'S STATEMENTS & THEIR RESPONSES 353 Nadhīr Husain was advanced in years and was devoid of understand- ing like a child. It fell to you to discharge the duties of being his dis- ciple-by blackening his face in his old age when he was about to die, with such revolting black ink that he will probably take his blackened face with him to the grave. The court of God is not something to be taken lightly. He who calls a Muslim kāfir will have to bear all the con- sequences which have been promised for the pronouncers of wanton edicts of disbelief by that Noble Messengersas who so loved justice that, on one occasion, when he was approached to deal leniently with a thief he said with great displeasure, 'By the Being who controls my life, even if Fatimah, daughter of Muhammadsas were to commit theft, her hand too would be cut off. '1 His Statement: (In such case, I can come to Qadian) to expose your lies and fraud to the Muslims, but I am afraid that you will try to cause physical harm to my life. My Statement: You cannot flee now through the means of any excuse or ruse. You have been presented with 10 curses and have been adjured in the name of Allah, glorified be His eminence, to settle the question of my truth or falsehood in accordance with the heavenly principle. If you are right in considering me to be a liar, then you will make yourself ready to oppose me as soon as you hear this from me. Otherwise, you will swallow all these curses and will seek to avoid the issue with absurd and half-baked excuses. And I do not wish to destroy you; there is only One who will destroy you if you do not desist and will safeguard His religion from this mischief of yours. There is no need for you to come to Qadian. If you are prepared to hold a test in accordance with the standard set by Allah and the Messengeras, I myself can come to Batala, Amritsar, or Lahore. تاسیہ روئے شود ھر کہ دروغش باشد ]So that the face of the one who is a liar may be blackened]. 1.
