ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE MUBĀHALAH To all those maulawis and muftis who, because of minor differences or because of their lack of understanding, consider this humble one to be a kāfir [disbeliever], it is submitted that God Almighty has now enjoined me to invite you to a mubāhalah. The procedure for this is that I will recount the arguments in support of my beliefs from the Quran and the Hadith in the presence of those assembled for the mubāhalah. If, after this, you still do not desist from calling me a kāfir, I will hold the mubāhalah in that very assembly. Accordingly, my first addressee is Miyāń Nadhir Husain Dehlawi, but if he refuses, then Shaikh Muhammad Husain Bațālawī, but if he, too, refuses, then, after him, I address all those maulawis who consider me to be a kāfir and who are looked upon as leaders of the Muslims. I allow all these gentle- men four months, reckoned from today, 10 December 1892. If within four months, they do not hold a mubāhalah on the basis of the afore- said conditions, nor desist from calling me a kāfir, the argument would be complete against them in the eyes of Allah the Exalted. It was my intention to first publish in this booklet as a response to all the unfounded allegations against me which they have made to constitute the basis of the charge of kufr [disbelief] against me, but due to the illness of the scribe and the consequent interruption, this part of the booklet could not be published till now.
