246 Ā'ĪNA-E-KAMĀLĀT-E-ISLĀM―DĀFI‘UL-WASĀWIS However, a demonstration of such a resurrection-which defi- nitely bestowed spiritual life to humanity—was manifested by the man endowed with perfect human attributes, whose exalted name is Muhammad, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. The entire Quran, from beginning to end, bears witness that this Messenger was sent at a time when all nations were [spiritually] dead with materialism, and spiritual disorder had spread havoc over land and sea. It was then that this Messenger came and gave life to the world anew and set aflow the sea of Tauhid [Oneness of God] upon the earth. If an unbiased individual were to reflect upon what the people of the Arabian peninsula were before, and what they became after follow- ing this Messenger; and how their norm of: savagery was transformed into the highest degree of civility; and how they proved the sincerity and truth of their faith by shedding their blood, sacrificing their lives, abandoning their loved ones, and dedicating their properties, hon- our, and comforts to the service of God Almighty; then, without any doubt, their steadfastness, sincerity, and readiness to sacrifice their lives in service of their beloved Messenger would be seen as a miracle of the highest order. That holy countenance had made such an impact upon on their lives that they became completely divorced from their own selves, and undergoing fanā fillāh [self-annihilation in Allah], they performed such acts of sincerity and truthfulness whose parallel is hard to find in any nation. And what they acquired as religious beliefs was not a teaching to accept a helpless human as God or to presume the Almighty Lord in need of children. On the contrary, through their Noble Messenger, they came to know the True God of Glory, who is eternally Immutable, [Hayyun Qayyumun―Everlasting and All-Sustaining]; exempt from the exigencies of being a son or a father; and immune to death and birth. These were the people who, having truly emerged from the pit of death, arose to stand atop the lofty tower of a life of purity. All of them had acquired a fresh life and were shining like stars in their faith. Therefore, in reality, only one perfect man appeared in the world
