244 Ā'ĪNA-E-KAMĀLĀT-E-ISLĀM―DĀFI‘UL-WASĀWIS The extent to which this statement of the editor is far removed from honesty and truth cannot remain hidden from any knowledgeable per- son. The reality is that if Hadrat Masiḥ [the Messiah], peace be upon him, had claimed that he was the life and the resurrection, then, as he was a true Prophet, it was necessary that the truth of this claim should have become manifest. Furthermore, through him, spiritual life would have spread throughout the world in the lifetime of Hadrat Masiḥ and thereafter. However, an example of the egregious extent to which the Honourable Messiah (as) failed in spreading the truth about God and Tauhid [the Oneness of God] would be very difficult to find in the life and times of any other Prophet. In this age of ours, even highly eminent priests have affirmed that the teaching of the Messiah was incapable of removing the petty-mind- edness, want of understanding, and worldliness of his very own dis- ciples. Moreover, the cowardice, faithlessness, and infidelity that they displayed at the time of the Messiah's arrest- -and indeed the curses some of them uttered against the revered Messiah during that final moment is a matter concerning which highly esteemed and learned Christians have declared that these inappropriate actions of the disci- ples are a cause of great shame for Christians. How far from the truth is it, then, to say that the revered Messiah was the spiritual resurrection, and that by entering into him, those who were spiritually dead gained life? The model that the Messiah's followers showed in his own life is such an embarrassing example of a lack of faith and steadfastness as it must have had a very detrimental effect on all those Christians who came after him from that time through today; for, everyone can under- stand that had the honourable Messiah actually manifested miracles or demonstrated a high calibre of wonderful works, then the end result of his disciples who believed in him would have never been so evil that some would have had him arrested in exchange for a bribe of a few coins, while others would run away upon seeing him being arrested, with others cursing him to his face.
