PREFACE FOOTNOTE 189 prices. However, when Divine decree unfolds itself, these prophesies generally turn out to be false. Nevertheless, they keep on disturbing the minds of people for nothing. Generally speaking, pushing their worries aside, they seek to have a hand in the Divinity of the Lord of Honour and Glory, but God's eternal wisdom always puts them to shame. Now, it is clear that regarding those people whose serious errors are constantly being exposed, how can we believe that everything they have discovered up to now regarding systems and science is infallible? We simply find it even embarrassing to accept the speculative basis of many of their scientific conclusions, because up till now, there is a large store of unfounded and unproven theories among their ideas. At this moment, the following comment of Imām Rāzī, may Allah shower His mercy upon him, seems very appealing: KJEK & IRÍ ¿ Meaning, anyone who wishes to measure الْبَارِي بِمِكْيَالِ الْعَقْلِ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ ضَلَالًا بَعِيدًا the kingdom of God with the scale of his own intellect has deviated far from truth, sincerity, and salvation. Now, that which the Noble Lord has disclosed and revealed to this humble one is that even if the theories of astronomers and physicists regarding meteors and comets are accepted to any extent, there is no disruption nor dispute between what Allah—exalted be His Majesty and glorified be His name—) —has described in the Noble Quran regard- ing the spiritual designs of these celestial objects and the explanations of those foolish philosophers, since the objective of these people is only to discover the material causes and the customary behaviour of these bodies in order to establish the general rules that regulate the physi- cal system. However, the Holy Quran is concerned with the spiritual system, and it is obvious that God's action in one cannot be in contra- diction with His action in the other. Hence, can this be an occasion for surprise that the physical and the spiritual systems always run parallel to each other through the power of God Almighty? Particularly given the fact that the muṣleḥ [reformers] of God keep coming in the world and great spiritual schemes continue being initi- ated by the will of God Almighty, and not a century passes without
