PREFACE ESSENCE OF ISLAM 95 the departure of the Holy Spirit, such elect are again surrounded by darkness and God forbid—because of the departure of the good companion, they begin to be subjected to the influence of the evil companion? Now, you should reflect giving just a little space in your heart for the fear of God- is this respect and is this faith and divine cognition! AUTHOR'S MARGIN NOTE To hold the belief that the Holy Spirit would often part from the Holy Prophetas is an insult of the highest degree And is this love for the Messenger of Allah, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, that such a state of defect and deficiency be attributed to the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, as if to say that the Holy Spirit would be separated from His Holiness, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, for long periods of time and during these periods—God forbid—the Holy Prophet, may peace and bless- ings of Allah be upon him, would be deprived of the holy light which is a reflection of the Holy Spirit! It is outrageous that the Christian people should firmly and categorically believe¹* that from the moment the Holy Spirit descended upon the Messiah, peace be on him, it never departed from him and that he was strengthened by the Holy Spirit at all times and 1.
