86 Ā'ĪNA-E-KAMĀLĀT-E-ISLĀM―DĀFI‘UL-WASĀWIS time, he blessed two or four pieces of bread by the touch of his hands to satisfy the hunger of thousands of people, and on other occasions, he blessed a small quantity of milk with his lips to make it fill the stomachs of an entire group of people. And on some occasions, he turned the salty water of a well into fresh water merely by putting some saliva from his mouth into it. He healed the critically injured by placing his hands on their wounds; and with the blessing of his hand, he made the eyes whole of those who had been deprived of their eyesight in war. Similarly, he performed many other miracles which were the result of personal powers that were accompanied by a hidden power of Allah. The Brahmūs, philosophers, and naturalists of today may be excused if they deny such miracles, for they cannot visualize a state of spiritual eminence in which a man is vouchsafed powers of Divinity by way of reflection. Thus, if they laugh upon hearing such things, they are helpless because they have not attained any stage of spiritual matu- rity beyond an immature, childish level. They are not only in a defec- tive condition, but would also be happy to die in the same state of spiritual imperfection. AUTHOR'S MARGIN NOTE Sad state of the Christians Yet even more pitiable is the case of those Christians who, by recounting some similar miracles-albeit inferior to these― have presented them as an argument for the 'Divinity' of Jesus. They claim that the Messiah's raising the dead to life and curing the para- lyzed and the lepers was through his personal authority—not through any prayer and this is evidence of the fact that he was truly the Son of God; nay, even God Himself! These hapless people do not realize that if a man can transform into God through these means, then our Chief and Master, the Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has a far greater claim upon this
