THE MESSAGE OR A CRY OF ANGUISH 61 before Surmah Chashm-e-Aryah. Pundit Dayananda intended to fuel discord between Hindus and Muslims by writing this book entitled, Satyarth Prakash. Moreover, Pundit Dayananda inspired a fresh wave of activism among the Aryas, so that sev- eral small pamphlets began to appear and a couple of newspapers were published solely for this purpose and were mostly filled with foul language. From the very inception of their religion, they and their faith began attacking Islam and began using harsh words against it, not only about Islam, but they also held no good opin- ion of Hindus such as Raja Ramchandra and Raja Krishna, etc. , nor were their writings decent regarding Baba Nanak. This is why their writings created a general uproar. In fact, the books of Pundit Dayananda and his cohorts were published at a time when there was no trace of any book of mine and I had not written even a single page. Pundit Dayananda not only hurt the feelings of tens of millions of Muslims by producing Satyarth Prakash, but toured across the Punjab and Hindustan and fell into the habit of using foul language in public gatherings. He disclosed his intention to re-convert to Hinduism the descendants of all the Hindu families that had turned Muslims in the last eight hundred years. This man was so abusive that even the followers of the Sanatan Dharam were not spared from his tongue. Had he not been silenced by early death, no one can know how many disturbances his writings and speeches would have sown in the country? I am told that on many occasions during his address some Hindus, out of extreme provocation, would throw stones at him. Thus, when the Aryas went so far as to insult Islam in the bazars, alleyways, streets and public gatherings, and they advised the Hindus against interact- ing with Muslims, and indoctrinated them in rancour, scorn and
