THE MESSAGE OR A CRY OF ANGUISH 51 books so far must have been written against Islam. Hence, send- ing even ten million memorials would not have been excessive. Now the question is, why no one, with the sole exception of the Anjuman-e-Himāyat-e-Islām Lahore, thought of getting all these Christian books, which are being repeatedly published, banned by a memorial. Even the honourable Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, with all his titles, did not consider this option, rather on the publication of the treatise Ummahātul-Mu'minin the late Syed Şahib attended to writing its rebuttal that has now been published, but which he was unable to complete due to his demise. In fact, he never sent any memorial with a view to banning this book, neither did he speak a word about it. What is the reason behind it? Is it because this Anjuman has more wisdom and understanding in political matters than him or are they more jealous for the honour of Islam than Syed Şahib? Similarly, other noble and honourable Muslims have witnessed such vilification by native priests for sixty years, yet they never sent a memorial. Were they all inferior to the Anjuman in wisdom and religious indignation? Does this not prove that the Anjuman holds its own peculiar opinion such as has never been entertained by Islamic scholars, those jealous for its honour and political commentators. On the other hand, they all agreed on writing its rebuttal. Initially, the Anjuman, merely to strike a post, considering this principle to be the most appropriate also prom- ised to abide by it and repeatedly published it in their journal, but until now they have failed to honour it. If it were true, as the Paisa Akhbar claimed, that enough had already been written in refutation of the Christian attacks so that there is no more need of it and now it seems quite prudent to send a memorial as the need arises, then why did this Anjuman make such a false promise?
