20 HADRAT MIRZA GHULAM AHMADAS Chief of the Prophets, the Best of Creation, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has been charged with thousands of fabri- cated accusations. Thus, I can swear on oath that it is us that the Holy Quran enjoins in chapter Al-e-Imrān: "In the latter days you shall hear hurtful things from prej- udiced priests and idolaters, and shall be tormented with various kinds of painful remarks, but, in the eyes of God Almighty, at such a time it will be better for you to show patience. " This is why, I repeatedly exhort you to be patient, and that is why when I was implicated in a false murder case by the clergymen and when Captain Douglas, District Magistrate, fully realised that it was totally baseless, he asked me if I wanted to file a libel suit against them, I unhesitatingly replied (and the honourable magistrate recorded my statement verbatim) that I would never like to sue them. Why did I do so? The reason was no other than that God Almighty has clearly exhorted us that in the latter days you would be persecuted at the hands of the People of the Book and idolaters, and you would hear much that upsets you, but at such time it would be a courageous act on your part if you did not resist this evil. Therefore, I would continue to exhort every Muslim, "Do not resist evil, reduce yourselves to dust and show your God how truly you obeyed His command. ” The steadfast do not even have to send a memorial without some dire need, for such an act also carries with it a stigma of impatience.
