THE MESSAGE OR A CRY OF ANGUISH 9 be devoted to two different tasks. For instance, one who is a civil servant and burdened with official responsibilities, if he attends to producing religious literature, then surely, apart from the dis- honesty he would be committing in spending his work hours in other activities, he cannot equal the person who has dedicated his entire time solely for this purpose, to the extent that his whole life is exclusively devoted to this cause. TENTH CONDITION for verbal and written [debates] is possessing miraculous power or heavenly signs. Man depends on witnessing this power in order to find true enlightenment and attain com- plete satisfaction. This, in fact, is the final verdict given by God Almighty. Therefore, whoever confronts the enemies of Islam and wishes to render speechless and subdue those who deem the man- ifestation of wonders to be against the law of nature, or those that deny the marvels and miracles of our Prophet, peace and bless- ings of Allah be upon him, must present those chosen servants of the Muhammadan Ummah that can display signs through their prayers. Remember, heavenly signs are closely linked with religion, for a true religion it is necessary that those who display miracles are continuously born within it. The truthful are not only granted scriptural evidences by God Almighty, but the one who debates with the opponents purely for His sake is certainly also granted heavenly signs. Indeed these signs are conferred upon him so that the God of heaven makes him prevail with His own hand; and the one who is not bestowed signs by God Almighty, I fear, is a hid- den disbeliever, since heavenly support did not descend for him in keeping with the Quranic promise.
