So you must not hasten to the Government officials and show no ill will by employing schemes but exercise patience and wipe off your flowing tears and stop remembering the ignorant discourses. And defend yourselves with that which is best and in keeping with the standing of the nobility. Do not rush towards the courts wailing and crying. Certainly every day we are emerging triumphant with conclusive arguments and dealing a crushing blow with definitive proofs. Our religion is not ignoble in the sight of the wise, and can never be degraded by the scorn of the ignorant. Hence, pro- testing to the Government like female mourners is hardly a com- mendable act in the eyes of the honourable ones. Moreover, he is not our sole enemy so that we will finally be at peace after his punishment; rather we find plenty of his ilk who talk like him and whose norms are similar to his. No city or town of this country is left in which they have not come to dwell and stay in order to create disorder in the land. In earlier times [their ancestors] used to lead ascetic lives and had faith in one God; they would not only adhere to ascetic practices but would also enjoin others to follow them. They would control their tongues and refrain from absurd talk. But then came an evil generation who deviated from this conduct and rejected the religious commandments. They rid- iculed the righteous and the pure, abandoned the Prayer, ate the flesh of swine, drank wine and worshipped a humble human being just like them. Some of them outdid others in abusing the Best of Mankind sas and maligned, out of enmity, the honour of the Best of Creatures sas. They wrote books full of abuse, slander, vulgarity and of dirty content mixed with plenty of deception in order to mis- lead the masses. Their abuses has increased to a number known
