A CLOSING PRAYER: SEND DOWN HELP FROM THE HEAVENS 315 Islam and sectarianism has divided the Ummah of [Muhammadsas] the Best of all Creation. As for the disbelievers and wicked parties, they have organized tireless efforts in pursuit of any possible criticism of me. My second source of agony is that ulama, jurists, and scholarly writers exist all around us, but they have become corrupt, calamity has befallen them-except [for a select few] as Allah wills. O my Lord! Have mercy and accept my prayer: It is to You that I submit my com- plaint and with You that I take refuge. These ulama claim that they are the columns supporting the Religion and the pillars of the Firm Faith. But I do not see a single person among them who is brave, eloquent, and serves the religion of our Prophet like a loving devotee or a close friend. Rather, they are all immersed in base desires, vain thoughts, unfounded allegations, and hypocrisy. I find that most of them are immoral. Earlier in my life I used to think that all of them, or the majority of them, were my helpers. However, when the time came for them to be tried, they turned their backs to me—and this is precisely what the Lord of Majesty had decreed as their destiny. As such, at pres- ent, I am isolated like the one who resides in the barren desert, or like the one who dwells among the people of the tents and the inhabitants of the desert. Thus, my plans have now diminished and my strength has declined, and my humiliation has become manifest before my people and my family relations. O Sustainer and Provider of the universe, there is no power nor any strength except with You! I prostrate before You and I put my trust in You alone and I am entirely pleased with You. O Lord! Pray conceal my shortcomings, alleviate my anxieties, and leave me not without prog- eny, for You are the Best of Inheritors. The granting and bestowal of all good is by Your hand, as is the conferring of honour and elevation. When You arrive, no affliction can arrive, and when You descend, then no misfortune can descend. I bear witness that there is no god besides You. There is none who can elevate besides You, and none who can protect save for You. I place
