A WARNING TO THOSE WHO ABUSE THE QURAN 307 Have you forgotten the darkness of the days of the Bible? Has the news of that age not reached you? How all manner of misguidance had enveloped every part of the world at that time? Did you not notice or listen to one with knowledge? That the people of that time had stooped to the lowest degree, and broke every oath they had taken, and their perversions consumed them the way a worm devours a corpse, and their faith decayed as though it were rotting wood infested by ter- mites.
