68 JESUS IN INDIA وَجِيهَا فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ وَمِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ ) The translation of this is that in this world and in the hereafter Jesus, the Messiah, will have a life in which he will be bestowed honour, that is to say, respect and stature, and eminence and greatness in the eyes of the ordinary people. Now it is evident that Jesus, the Messiah, was not honoured in any way in the land of Herod and Pilate. On the contrary, he suffered great humiliation. And the thought that he will be accorded honour and eminence upon returning to the world is a groundless delusion, which is not only opposed to the purport of the Books of God Almighty but is also repugnant and opposed to His eternal law of nature, and moreover is a matter lacking any proof. But the real and true state- ment is that when Jesus, the Messiah, may peace be on him, having escaped from the clutches of that ill-fated people, graced the land of the Punjab with his presence, God Almighty blessed him with great honour and here he found those ten tribes of Israel who had been lost. It seems that most of the Children of Israel, upon arriv- ing in this country, had adopted Buddhism and some had degen- erated into idolatry of a very low kind. But with the coming here of Jesus, the Messiah, most of them returned to the right path, and since the teaching of Jesus, the Messiah, contained the exhorta- tion to believe in the prophet who was to come, all the ten tribes who came to be known in this land as Afghans and Kashmiris ultimately became Muslims. In short, Jesus, the Messiah, was accorded great esteem and respect in this land. And recently a coin has been discovered in the Punjab, which bears the name of 1. Surah Al-e-Imran, 3:46 [Publisher]
