THE JOURNEY TO HOME 169 Gurdaspur, Punjab. He informed the Ambassador that the two of us had left Qadian together, and while he came to Tehran, I went through Mashhad to the USSR and am now returning two years later. After staying in Tehran three or four days, the British Ambassador in Tehran ordered for me to travel by a car to Baghdad and gave me some money for my trip as well. He also notified the Ambassador in Baghdad that when I arrive, I should be sent to Basra, and then from Basra to Karachi by ship. I, thus, reached Baghdad, where, by the grace of God Almighty, there was an established chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. I met with them, and they then sent a tele- gram to Huzoor to notify him that I had arrived in Baghdad and would be going to Karachi via Basra. After staying in Baghdad for a few days, I then arrived in Basra. I met with some Ahmadi Muslims here as well, who showed me great love and sincerity. After staying in Basra for a couple of days, I left on board a ship heading to Karachi. The Karachi chapter of our Community had been informed about the ship I would be arriving on. Therefore, when I arrived at the shores of Karachi, I was received by Police Inspector Sheikh Nayaaz Muhammad, who was also an Ahmadi Muslim. He took me to his residence where I stayed for two or three days. During that time, I was able to meet with the members of the Karachi chapter of our Community, which was small in number in those days. The Community also sent word to our headquarters in Qadian that I had reached Karachi and what day I would con- tinue on my way back to Qadian.
