144 FIRST GRAIN OF SAND I became convinced that just as the Promised Messiahas is the per- fect manifestation of the Holy Prophet Muhammadsas, in the same way Hazrat Khalifatul-Masih II is the perfect manifestation of the Promised Messiahas. This is why before Hazrat Khalifatul-Masih II's birth, God Almighty had revealed to the Promised Messiahas that the coming reformer would follow his example in beauty and kindness. Often, when I would have dreams of meeting respected elders, I would see [a close Companion of the Promised Messiah] Hazrat Dr. Mir Muhammad Ismailra in a very positive light. Seeing him frequently in my dreams convinced me that God Almighty had heard my prayers, and inshaAllah [God willing] I would defi- nitely be released from this prison and return to Qadian. Often I dreamt about my imprisonment by seeing that I am swimming in a river and while doing so have crossed to the other side of the river. I read in a book of dream interpretations that if someone is in captivity and sees in a dream that they are in a river and have crossed to the other side, this means that they will be released from captivity. I saw this dream of swimming in and crossing a river many times. During my time in the Moscow prison, I regularly recited the poems of Hazrat Khalifatul-Masih II that I had memorized and firmly believed that God Almighty had given Huzoor this poem for me. After all, it was the USSR whose President, Lenin, made the decisive proclamation as soon as he came into power after the fall of the Czar that there is no God and that all people are com- rades to one another.
