ليل لان لَيْسُوا, لَسْتُنَّ, لَسْتُمْ لَسْتُ have been used in the Qur'an )13:44; 2:114; 33:33; 5:69). 28 لَيْلٌ Night (see commentary for لَيْلٌ and لَيَالٍ لَيْلَةٌ and اللَّيَالِي plurals )89:3:34:19( لَيْلٌ لَائِلٌ أَوْ لَيْلٌ أَلْيَلُ : Very dark night or the most dark of all nights of the month. Generally لَيْلٌ and لَيْلَةٌ means the same thing i. e. night, but according to famous lexicographer, Marzuqur لَيْلٌ is used as opposed to نَهَارٌ and لَيْلَةٌas opposed to لَيْلَةٌ يَوْمٌ like عَلامَةٌ and نَسَّابَةٌ is expressive of exaggeration and possesses a wider and more extensive meaning than لَيْلٌ as يَوْمٌ which is its opposite, has a wider sense than نَهَارٌ which is opposite of لَيْلٌ . The word لَيْلَةٌ has been used as many as eight times in the Qur'an (2:52; 2:188; 44:4; twice in 7:143). لَانَ 28 ]aor. يَلِيْنُ inf. noun لِيْنًا and لِيْنَةً[ : It was or became soft, as opposed to harsh; smooth; kind; plaint gentle tender. فَبِمَا رَحْمَةٍ مِّنَ اللَّهِ لِنْتَ لَهُمْ : It is by the great mercy of God that thou art kind towards them )3:160( لَيَّنَ الشَّيْءَ أَوْ اَلْيَنَهُ : He made the thing soft, plain supple. وَاَلنَّا لَهُ الْحَدِيدَ : We made the iron soft for him )34:11( قَوْلًا لَّيْنًا : Gentle speech )20:45( لين is act. part from لان لِيْنَةٌ : A kind of date tree of very inferior quality )59:6(. ررس 744
