ضرع ضرب prevented them from hearing; we made them sleep by preventing any sound from penetrating into their ears in consequence of which they would have awoken )18:12( ضَرَبَ الصَّلاةَ : He observed the prayer. ضَرَبَ الدَّهْرُ بَيْنَنَا : Time separated us. ضَرَبَ اللَّيْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ : The night became long for them. ضَرَبَ عَلَى الْمَكْتُوبِ : He sealed the letter. ضَرَبْنَا عَلَى آذَانِهِمْ may also mean We sealed up their ears so that they could not hear anything. ضَرَبَ : The scorpion stung. ضرب ضَرَبَ الْعَقْرَبُ . The time passed : الزَّمَانُ بِبَلِيَّةٍ و : He was smitten with a trial or affliction. ضَرَبَ كَلْبَهُ عَلَى الصَّيْدِ : He trained his dog for the purpose of hunting. ضَرْبٌ )inf. noun ( : Striking; journeying or moving about or travelling. فَرَاغَ عَلَيْهِمْ : لَا يَسْتَطِيْعُوْنَ ضَرْبًا فِي الْأَرْضِ . He began suddenly to strike them :ضَرْبًا They are unable to move about in the land )2:274( ضرْبٌ also means a sort or species or the like of a thing and of a person )plural ضُرُوْبٌ ضَرَعَ مِنَ الشَّيْءِ ضُرُوعٌ : He became near the ضَرَعَ ]aor. يَضْرُعُ inf. noun thing. ضَرَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ : The sun set or was near setting. ضَرَعَ )aor يَضْرُعُ inf. noun ضَرَعَ فَرَسَهُ ضَرْعٌ : He humbled or abased, his horse. ضَرَعَ said of a kid, means he took with his mouth the udder or dug. This seems to be regarded by some as the primary signification ضَرَعَ aor. يَصْرَعُ inf. noun ضَرَاعَةٌ( and ضَرِعَ )aor. يَضْرَعُ inf. noun ضَرَعٌ( and ضَرَعَ )aor يَضْرُعُ inf. noun : (ضَرَاعَةٌ All these verbs mean, he was or became weak; when followed by إِلَيْهِ mean, he lowered, humbled or abased himself to him and without إِلَيْهِ mean, he lowered or humbled etc. himself. تَضَرَّعَ : He lowered, humbled or abased himself; he addressed himself with earnest or energetic application; he manifested severe poverty and want. جَاءَ فُلانٌ يَتَضَرَّعُ : Such a one came asking or petitioning to another for a thing that he wanted; he wrote and asked or called for aid or succour. : The shade تَضَرَّعَ الظُّلُّ contracted, shrank or decreased. وَلَعَلَّهُمْ يَضَّرَّعُوْنَ : So that they may become humble )795( لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَضَرَّعُوْنَ or humble themselves )6:43( ادْعُوْا رَبَّكُمْ تَضَرُّعًا : Call upon your Lord in humility )7:56( ضَرِيع : A bad sort of pasture upon which the pasturing cattle do not become fat or fleshy and which renders them in a bad 505
